Power is out, road closed…but minimal damage

by Strawberry Park on October 30, 2012

Despite the large tree across Pierce Road that took down power lines and a utility pole, the damage within Strawberry Park is rather minimal.  At this time, 95% of Preston is without electricity, and there is no immediate prognosis on restoration.  However, other than a few Strawberry Park rental units, only one long-term camper appears to have suffered tree damage (sorry Bob R on 329E–we tried to call you).  See photos of the downed trees on our album–the largest tree that fell landed in between 2 Park Model rentals.  For updates on electricity, see the CL&P grid, and focus on not only Preston, but on the surrounding towns that provide main feeder lines (Voluntown and North Stonington).  Our generator is able to provide limited power to the Main Office, as well as water throughout the Park (and the restrooms near the office are open), so if any of our long term campers are without power and water for an extended period of time, we welcome you to the Park–but remember, we do not expect electricity back anytime too soon.  If you are coming to Strawberry Park, please be careful on Pierce Road, as utility lines are still down, and only 1 lane is open due to low overhead wires. Lastly, we hope all of our camper friends managed the storm without much damage.
